Welcome

Letter from the Founding Editors of Hastings Business Law Journal

Keith Bonichi, Elizabeth Chen, Pejman J. Javaheri, Xinchen Sofia Lou,
and Jarett A. Nixon

As students of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, we noticed that while the school publishes a distinguished set of scholarly journals, there did not exist a forum dedicated to discussing legal issues concerning business. We also recognized that the content of the handful of business law journals nationwide were only limited to academic and theoretical articles. Furthermore, our interests in business law inspired us to embark on the journey of founding the Hastings Business Law Journal. The HBLJ is focused on providing content comprising of both cutting edge theory and practical information to scholars and practitioners. Further, the HBLJ provides an opportunity for like-minded Hastings students to collaborate with leading scholars in business law and to publish their own scholarly notes.

To our great delight, the Hastings Business Law Journal was enthusiastically received by Hastings students, professors, and the business law community. In just twelve short months, our team of over fifty top students successfully secured funding from respected sponsors, solicited exceptional articles from scholars and practicing attorneys, and meticulously compiled and edited this inaugural issue. Our publication will be received not only by the top libraries and law schools in the nation, but also by the top 100 national law firms and the General Counsels of the Fortune 250 companies.

As this issue goes to print, we are proud to see that a solid foundation has been established. The incoming editorial board and staff are already hard at work selecting content and editing the second issue. Six prominent Hastings professors are supporting our efforts by serving as faculty advisors. Additionally, continued financial support from the legal community will ensure the publication of future issues.

In closing, it is clear that the HBLJ would not be in existence today without the dedication of everyone on our team. We thank all our members and advisors who volunteered countless hours and brought their unique talents and skills to the HBLJ. We hope that this inaugural issue will mark the beginning of a venerable and respected Hastings publication.
