The
explosion of digital media continues to generate unprecedented issues of
control, creating a tug-of-war between consumers, content owners,
distributors, and everyone else in-between. The
tumult can be traced to an attack on established business paradigms.
The most conspicuously uprooted paradigm is the music industry,
which was once dominated by a few giant conglomerates. The
old model allowed them to control music’s distribution. However,
digital media gives today’s consumers the ability to choose precisely
when, where, and how we get music - the manifestation of a drastic shift
in control. In this symposium, practicing digital
media attorneys from the Bay Area will explore the latest legal,
licensing and entrepreneurial issues driving the worlds of music and
digital media.
